Everyone is talking about lean production ever since a well-known pharmaceutical company stated publicly that it wanted to be the »Toyota of the pharmaceutical industry«.
Where do the challenges lie in chemical and pharmaceutical production?
The importance of process optimisation has risen enormously in recent years, especially on account of increasing cost pressure. It therefore makes sense to adopt the factors for success used by other sectors. Lean and Six Sigma projects are therefore an integral component of strategic deliberations aimed at increasing efficiency. However, the peculiarities of the pharmaceuticals industry, such as cGMP in production or regulatory problems, for example, call for a transfer effort tailored to the individual company. In the future a total revision is called for to raise the overall potential of these approaches.
CePhaSys Consulting has a wealth of experience to offer. The basis for this is that, both as managers in the pharmaceuticals industry and as consultants, we have successfully implemented the principles of lean production in relation to pharmaceuticals and active substances.
Moreover, we have also designed our own tools LAB TRAIN and SINGLE BATCH FLOW, which have proven their sustained success in a number of applications. Pre-eminent for mentioning here are the dramatic reductions in developmental time and in production throughput time (>70%).
